About Me

A bit about me:

NJ Wedding Photographer - Jim PowellHey there, I’m glad you decided to check out this page! In reality, it might be the most important page on my site. Not for self-centered reasons, but because, lets face it… there are a lot of photographers out there. Even once you’ve narrowed it down to price range, location, and quality, there are still a lot of choices and our personalities are often what often separate us the most. You need to know you’ll be comfortable with your photographer. If you’re not, it’ll show up in the work!

So this page is meant to give you a bit of insight into me. Hopefully, one way or another, it’ll help you make your decision a little easier in deciding who to hire.

My name is Jim Powell and I’m a New Jersey based Event and Wedding photographer.  I actually shoot all kinds of photography; travel, urban, food, live bands, fashion, people… whatever, I just enjoy shooting. But over the last few years I’ve been focusing most of my time on event and wedding photography. In addition to weddings, I shoot Bar Mitzvahs, engagement partiesbirthdays, anniversary parties, or any other celebrations that people want to capture.

I consider myself a photojournalistic photographer.  Meaning, I like to step back and catch the moments that happen naturally.  I just use my experience to anticipate the moments that are there to be captured.  Of course the formal pictures and hug and smile pictures are always something I’m happy to do for you, but I try to keep that portion of the day as short as possible so everyone can just relax and have a good time.

I generally shoot in New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia and Delaware, but I also do some destination weddings. I highly encourage people to consider destination weddings because the scenery is typically far more beautiful, and believe it or not, it can be quite a bit cheaper too!

If you’d like to see any of my other work, my other website jimpowellphoto.com has travel, food, and band photography. I think it gives you a good idea of what makes me tick… photography, music, travel, and food!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask, I’m happy to hear from you!
