A Destination Wedding, Away We go. – NJ Wedding Photographer

I realize that I am not among the majority here, but the thought of getting married on an island somewhere far off with just a handful of my nearest and dearest, sand beneath my feet, and ocean waves as a backdrop is, quite honestly, the only way I imagine myself getting married.  Actually, while I’m correct about not being in the majority, I did recently read that 1 out of 10 couples are planning a destination wedding.  What I found the most interesting is that this does not equate to the knee length slip dress casual affair.  Brides are hopping on a jet plane, with Cinderella gowns in tow, on their way to say “I Do” in the traditionally formal way that we are all so familiar with.  They’re just doing it a lot less expensively.  According to The Wedding Report, the average destination wedding runs for around $7,500.  That’s amazing!  Especially when you consider that the average couple is known to drop about $26,000 for a wedding that takes place within driving distance of their own home, or so says Conde Nast’s 2009 Wedding Study. So what do you think?  Would you consider it or no way? For me this is a no-brainer.  The only really difficult decision I need to make is Jamaica or Mexico?

Christy Oppenheimer - After just having spent, what I consider oodles of money on my perfect local wedding, I can’t say I’d have done it any other way. But for me, I wanted to share the day with much too many people to consider a destination wedding. My husband was trying to convince me otherwise as he was hoping for a smaller wedding on an island but I won that battle. I can appreciate the desire to have a destination wedding and it is very appealing to chop your wedding budget in half or more. My recommendation would be to skip Jamaica though — I hear you really can’t leave the resort if you go there… It’s very poor. I’m sure finding a place will be the easy part. Finding the girl that will say yes is another matter altogether! : )

eddieshpt - I think that a destination wedding is a great idea…very cost effective and you get to kill to birds with one stone – get married and honeymooning all in one. Another destination to conside is Antigua in the eastern caribbean, it boast 365 beaches one for each day of the year. There is also a Sandals Resort there and other fabulous all inclusive hotels and the locals are friendly.
